Orientation Week 2019 Plan

September 23-27, 2019

Day 1 – Monday – INTRODUCTION DAY

Location: ul. świętego Łazarza 16, 31-530 Kraków;  CDK Aula A&B

Dress code: formal (national/traditional attire encouraged)

9.00 am Registration (valid photo ID required) and taking assigned seats. Timely arrival is requested. Guests are welcome.

9.30 am

Welcome Speeches from:

  • Prof. Rafał Olszanecki, MD, PhD – V-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, JU MC
  • Senior Student

Swearing the Oath

“Help, I’m studying Medicine” – screening of a film shot and directed by the JU MC SME students.

Class photo (outside the CDK, if the weather permits)

11 am – 12 noon  LUNCH served outside the Aulas

12 noon – 2.30 pm – Anatomy Museum tours (groups of 30, every 30 minutes). Location: ul. Mikołaja Kopernika 12, 33-332 Kraków

3pm – Polish Language Proficiency Placement Test (obligatory)/ group assignemnt – location: CDK, Aula A

Note: Representatives of medical textbooks booksellers will be present on site on this date. It will be possible to purchase  or order textbooks from them.


Day 2 – Tuesday  – SETTLING IN

9am – 10.30am – Polish Class; location: Anatomy Department; ul. Mikołaja Kopernika 12, 33-332 Kraków; seminar rooms: A1, A4, A6, A13 and CDK, seminar rooms: S2, S3, S4

Location: ul. świętego Łazarza 16, 31-530 Kraków;  CDK Aula D

Dress code: casual

11.00 am Luke Fitzgerald (LukeLifeCharms)  presentation or a dedicated video from an American vlogger enamoured with Poland

11.30 am Visa Requirements – presentation from a representative of the City Hall

12.00 noon Visa requirements  from a Student’s perspective  –   a presentation by Mark Gosnell  (5-10 min)

12.15 pm Presentation from a School office staff member about USOS, website, DRF, email account activation and occupational medicine doctor check-up

11.45-12.45 One-on-one consultations with the City Hall Representative

Computer Lab

12.30 – 15.50 7x 20min-workshops in the computer lab on how to activate the email account and how to use it. Distribution of personalized packages with student email activation data at the workshops


Day 3 Wednesday – SAFETY & CULTURAL AWARENESS

9am – 10.30am – Polish Class; location: Anatomy Department; ul. Mikołaja Kopernika 12, 33-332 Kraków; seminar rooms: A1, A4, A6, A13 and CDK, seminar rooms: S2, S3, S4

Location: ul. świętego Łazarza 16, 31-530 Kraków;  CDK Aula D

Dress code: casual

 

11am Aula  D Workshop with dr William Shaw, the School Counselor

  • 11am-12.30pm – 1st module
  • 12.30 pm – 1 pm Coffee break – snacks served
  • 1 pm – 2.30 pm 2nd module

Topics for the workshop:

  1. Dealing with Anxiety and Depression
  2. How to respond to fellow students who are struggling
  3. Wrestling with Perfectionism
  4. Surviving Polish Culture/Culture Shock
  5. Helpful study habits and reducing procrastination
  6. Self-Care Basics

2.30 pm –  5.30 Field trips with Crazy Guides *

  • Communism tour of Nowa Huta district – 30 places;
  • Krakow City Sightseeing – With Private Guide In Krakow – 20 places;
  • Jewish Krakow And Schindler’s List – Half-Day Private Tour In Krakow – 20 places.

*70 spots, available upon registration; first come, first served; lunch served for the participants of each of the tours; free of charge. REGISTER HERE (registration is open until September 18, 2pm).


Day 4 – Thursday – SPORT DAY

9am – 10.30am – Polish Class; location: Anatomy Department; ul. Mikołaja Kopernika 12, 33-332 Kraków; seminar rooms: A1, A4, A6, A13 and CDK, seminar rooms: S2, S3, S4

Location: ul. Andrzeja Badurskiego 19, 30-962 Kraków

Dress code: sport attire

 

1pm

  • Meeting with PE coordinators; learning the options available, signing up to particular groups, demo classes;

Day 5 – Friday –  ACADEMIC DAY

9am – 10.30am – Polish Class; location: Anatomy Department; ul. Mikołaja Kopernika 12, 33-332 Kraków; seminar rooms: A1, A4, A6, A13 and CDK, seminar rooms: S2, S3, S4
