Orientation Week 2020 – Schedule

Note: to partake in the event, you need to have activated your student email account (in the @student.uj.edu.pl domain). To access particular meetings, install the MS Teams application on your computer, and log in with your university email. Next, click on an appropriate link below.

 

Day 1 – September 28, 2020 – Monday – Introduction

9am  – 10am – A presentation by JU MC SME office staff members covering topics such as:

  • Introduction to the JU MC SME
  • JU MC SME website (contents, DRF)
  • USOSweb
  • Student e-mail – primary contact
  • Savoir Vivre
  • Covid-19 protocol and guide
  • Health Insurance
  • Occupational Medicine Health Check-up
  • Documents for enrolment;
  • E-learning platforms used by the JU (MS Teams, Pegaz)

During this meeting, you will only be able to watch. You are encouraged to take notes of any questions you might have, to ask them later in dedicated Q&A sessions.

Day 2 & 3 – September 29 & 30, 2020 – Tuesday & Wednesday – Settling in in the new reality

 

Day 2 and 3 are dedicated to navigating your new reality – as freshmen, medical students in a foreign country.

We will have two Speakers:

Luke Fitzgerald  – an American vlogger (LukeLifeCharms) and pro-basketball player enamoured with Poland

and

William Shaw – a Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in the state of Minnesota, USA and practicing in Krakow, Poland, who cooperates with the JU MC SME as a School Counsellor.

NOTE: Please check which group you are assigned to and access the Q&A sessions accordingly. The list with group assignment was emailed to you. The group division only applies to the Q&A sessions on September 29 and 30. All other sessions are open to everyone.

 

September 29, 2020, Tuesday

Everyone, please watch Dr Shaw’s LECTURE prior to the sessions.

The lecture is devoted to the most common problems students face when first starting medical studies, and how to best cope with them.

9 am – 10 am – A presentation by Luke Fitzgerald covering topics such as:

·         Meeting new cultures and a new reality (of medical studies); 

·         How to cope with the challenges of the new circumstances; 

·         How to get along with new classmates (coming from around the globe); 

·         How to avoid burning out; 

·         How to cultivate curiosity rather than fear of “the other” and the new; 

·         Impressions of Poland and Kraków and how they relate to one’s preconceptions of the country; 

·         Advice on how to best find one’s way in Poland as a foreigner  

During this meeting, you will only be able to watch. You are encouraged to take notes of any questions you might have, to ask them later in dedicated Q&A sessions in smaller groups.

Day 4 – October 1, 2020 – Thursday – Legalization of stay in Poland for Students

Day 4 is dedicated to all matters to do with legalizing your stay in Poland – what documents are required, timeframe for the process and how to best go about it.

The subject will be covered by a representative of the Małopolska Provincial Office in Krakow, Department for Foreigners (Pol. Małopolski Urząd Wojewódzki w Krakowie, Wydział Spraw Cudzoziemców), Ms Irmina Czysnok (Tel.  1239214033, iczysnok@muw.pl)
