Orientation Week 2021 – Schedule

Day 1 – September 27, 2021 – Monday – Introduction (ONLINE)

9 am – 10 am – A presentation by JU MC SME office staff members covering topics such as:

  • Introduction to the JU MC SME
  • JU MC SME website (contents, DRF)
  • USOSweb
  • Student e-mail – primary contact
  • Savoir Vivre
  • Health Insurance
  • Occupational Medicine Health Check-up
  • Documents for enrolment;
  • E-learning platforms used by the JU (MS Teams, Pegaz)

During this meeting, you will only be able to watch. You are encouraged to take notes of any questions you might have, to ask them later in dedicated Q&A sessions.

10.30 am – 11.30 am Q&A session on all the covered topics.

Day 2 & 3 – September 28 & 29, 2021 – Tuesday & Wednesday – Settling in in the new reality (HYBRID)

 

Day 2 and 3 are dedicated to navigating your new reality – as freshmen, medical students in a foreign country.

We will have two Speakers:

Luke Fitzgerald 

– an American vlogger (LukeLifeCharms) and pro-basketball player enamored with Poland

and

William Shaw

– a Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in the state of Minnesota, USA, and practicing in Krakow, Poland, who cooperates with the JU MC SME as a School Counsellor.

 

NOTE: Please check which group you are assigned to and access the Q&A sessions accordingly. The list with the group assignment is available here. To access it, you will need to log in with your student email account. The group division only applies to the Q&A sessions on September 28 and 29. All other sessions are open to everyone.

Everyone, please watch the video material from both the Speakers before the sessions. Take notes of any questions you might have, to ask them later in dedicated Q&A sessions in smaller groups.

Day 4 – September 30, 2021 – Thursday – Legalization of stay in Poland for Students (ONLINE)

Day 4 is dedicated to all matters to do with legalizing your stay in Poland – what documents are required, timeframe for the process, and how to best go about it.

The subject will be covered by a representative of the Małopolska Provincial Office in Krakow, Department for Foreigners (Pol. Małopolski Urząd Wojewódzki w Krakowie, Wydział Spraw Cudzoziemców), Ms Irmina Czysnok (Tel.  1239214033, iczysnok@malopolska.uw.gov.pl)

  • Registration of stay for EU and non-EU citizens
  • Temporary stay permit for students
  • Temporary stay permit for graduates
  • Preparing an application
  • OPT – Helpline and Information on legal residence and employment
  • Additional support

11 am – 12 noon Q&A session with Irmina Czysnok


Day 5 – October 1, 2021 – Friday – White Coat Ceremony (IN PERSON*)

9 am – registration begins. Note: Have a valid photo ID with you. To limit the number of attendees, only the 1st year students are allowed in the event; no families or friends please.

10 am – start

  • official welcome by the JU MC V-Dean, Prof. Agata Ptak-Belowska, MD, PhD
  • White Coat Ceremony
  • swearing the Oath
  • speech from a JU MC SME Graduate

Dress code: smart casual

*All events taking place in person are located at CDK, ul. św. Łazarza 16, Kraków, Aulas C&D, 2nd floor.
